The speed of advances in technology has been paralleled by changes within the structure of societies and created differences between generations in their adaptation to the digital age. Today's young people are familiar with the use of technology undreamed of when the practitioner's treating them were the same age.

Despite this rapid pace of change, human beings, their physical and psychological development and their family and social relationships remain fundamentally the same as do the difficulties that can occur in such development.

What has changed? What remains the same?

I invite you on behalf of the organising committee and the RANZCP Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to attend the 2008 child and adolescent psychiatry conference for Australia and New Zealand "Child 2008- Challenges in the Digital Age". At this meeting we should have the opportunity to discuss these issues and numerous other scientific and professional advances. Join your colleagues in the resort town of Port Douglas, "where the rainforest meets the reef" to enjoy intellectual stimulation, collegiate discussion and possibly even some recreation.
